2017 Scrapbook Expo Review | Akron, OH

Last weekend, I attended the Akron, OH Stamp & Scrapbook Expo (for the third year in a row!!). I just wanted to share my haul with you all…

My haul literally took up half of my bed. Soooo much goodness. There were less than 25 vendors, but the ones that were there were pretty current with their selection. Definitely more “planner” related items than I remember last year- and I even took a planner class. Yay!2017 Akron, OH Stamp & Scrapbook Expo | JM CreatesMy favorite purchases were the crystal pens and the washi. I gotta have all the washi!2017 Akron, OH Stamp & Scrapbook Expo | JM Creates

Memories… I can’t wait until next year’s show!

Have you ever attended one of the Stamp & Scrapbook Expos?

8 Years!

Just a little note that today marks my 8th anniversary of starting my blog! I started Jenna’s Wonderland at a Blogspot address in 2009, and now I love my space here at Jen Manis Creates.

I can’t believe it’s been so long! I still enjoy sharing my crafty adventures, and can’t wait to see what’s next on my journey at my space on the web!

I thought I’d re-introduce myself to you all today with 5 things about me.

  1. I love all things related to scrapbooking, memory keeping, and planning. I have been scrapbooking since 2006.
  2. Scrapbooking led me to where I am today. I fell in love with design and photography, so I went back to school a few years ago and pursued a degree in those things!
  3. I have four beautiful little birds, who talk up a storm and keep me entertained daily! I’ve had parrots my entire life, in fact!
  4. I am an old soul. Don’t get me wrong, I love modern day conveniences (hello internet!), but I think I was meant for another era. I am inspired by the 20’s, 40’s and 50’s.
  5. I am a very proud introvert. People have tried to change me my whole life, but I am who I was meant to be!

Thanks for stopping by today & every time! Here’s to the next 8 years!

The Planner Society | May 2017 Kit

I did it. I finally subscribed to The Planner Society main planner kit. I’ve been looking at these for at least a year, maybe longer. It never seemed like the right time for me to take on something like that. I’ve been scrapbooking since 2006, and I’ve never subscribed to any kit clubs! I’ve purchased one-off kits or past kits, yes, but never committed to a kit club until now!

I love the look of the May kit, but I just kept scrolling on, like I always do. I really love this Palm Springs theme though. And all the Planner Girl goodies- like the clip, the stamp, the notepad…

When the registration stayed open an extra day,  I took it as a sign from above that I was meant to have this kit. I clicked subscribe, and I am so happy I did! When the box came, it was like Christmas morning!! I don’t know how long I’ll keep my subscription going, but as long as they look as beautiful as this, it may be forever!

Here are just a few things I’ve made with the contents of this gorgeous kit…and I still have a few things left to use!

I purchased this kit on my own, and I only endorse companies and products that I truly love & use, and that I think my readers will love too!

National Crafting Week

I was so sad that I didn’t get to participate in any events for iNSD (International Scrapbooking Day) last Saturday. I always seem to work that day. I’ve got to change that one of these days!

But, I’m super excited that this week is National Crafting Week! A whole week dedicated to my favorite hobby! I can definitely get behind that! I love everything about scrapbooking and planning; they are my passions. You can bet I will dedicate some time to them this week!

Instagram Anniversary!

A year ago today, I decided to create a separate Instagram account for all my crafty adventures. I had no idea how fun it would be to focus on this one topic for an Instagram account! Things really took off once I started sharing my Happy Planner obsession! I was excited to find other planner girls that had the same love for planners as I do. I am so grateful for everyone that takes the time to like a photo, or shares a comment. Long live Instagram! Feel free to follow me @jenmaniscreates. IMG_7241f0790-img

Scrapbooking in a Traveler’s Notebook Update

Hi there! So, I decided to switch up my scrapbooking routine a few months ago. I switched from making classic 12×12 layouts to a Traveler’s Notebook format. I still love it! It’s a quick and creative way for me to just get my photos and words down. I really wish that I would take a little time each week to print out my favorite photos and make a quick layout, but right now I seem to binge and make several layouts in one sitting, like once a month. I am ok with that, I guess. 🙂

My layouts are simple: photo(s), paper, letter stickers, date stamp, and the occasional embellishment. That’s it!

Here are a few layouts:

New Planner Haul!

So many new planner/scrapbooking goodies have been hitting the stores the past couple weeks. I wandered into JoAnn’s with my coupons and I was delighted with what I saw!

Now, I don’t do major shopping like I used to do. I have purged many things that I do not need anymore and simplified my stash more. But, I did find a lot of cool things to add to my collection, including a new Webster’s Pages TN and Composition Notebook, Magnolia Jane paper & stickers by Heidi Swapp, a couple new planner items by DCWV, and a new mat by Teresa Collins. Whew!

I love these new goodies- the Webster’s Pages notebooks are gorgeous and so is the Magnolia Jane paper. The thing I wasn’t as impressed with, sadly, were the items from DCWV. I bought a pack of daily pages because I really like how they’re laid out, but they are huge- way larger than any of my other inserts. I also bought a tall notebook with the 6 ring holes already in it- very convenient- but, it doesn’t fit correctly for my A5 WP and Carpe Diem planners, and, the pages appear to be sown in it upside down. If I would have noticed that, I probably wouldn’t have bought them. I don’t have a DCVW planner, and I incorrectly thought they would nicely in my other planners. Bummer! But, I am satisfied with my other goodies!  🙂

Do you have your eye on any new planner goodies?

Using a Traveler’s Notebook for Scrapbooking

Today I want to share my new scrapbooking system. So, I’ve been scrapbooking for over 10 years now. I have hundreds of layouts stored very nicely in Iris boxes. I am running out of room. 😯 Plus, after so many years, I am a little bored with filling up 12X12 pages. And, it takes a lot of supplies to create those layouts. So, after being inspired by several people on YouTube and Instagram, I decided to make a change.

I bought a gorgeous Webster’s Pages Platinum Traveler’s Notebook last spring, and I didn’t know what to do with it. I wanted to plan with it, but that didn’t work for me. I tried making random lists in the books, but that felt like a waste. So, upon seeing others using the books as mini scrapbooks, with the smaller size for spreads, I wanted to try it out! It has been working great for me so far. I use one book as a yearly diary for myself, one book is for the year, and one is for random layouts or to record memories from past years. I don’t know how quickly I will fill a book up, so I don’t know how many books it will take to complete a year. I am hoping maybe to fill one up in four months, so I would need four books a year.

This system is much more manageable than the huge layouts! They are tucked away in a lovely book that I can pull out anytime. I think I’ll like this change! I can still make some regular layouts throughout the year, but the TN system is less burdensome and intimidating. If you’re just getting started with scrapbooking, I suggest trying this system out!

Would you/do you use this kind of system for memory keeping? Let me know in the comments!

My Planner System for 2017

Hello! Happy Sunday!

Finally!! I think I have my planner system set up for now. I have many perfectly lovely planners, and I have been spending the past month & a half perfecting my planner system for my needs right now. So, I want to introduce you to my current planner stack:

I had a moment (ok a few weeks) when I didn’t know if I wanted to keep my classic size Happy Planner in my everyday stack. But, then I took it out of rotation, and I missed it. Then I looked through my past spreads, and I realized I love decorating a planner. While it needs to be functional as well, I love looking back at how I decorated my week, and what I did that week. Plus, I looove these rose gold rings. So, my Minty Fresh Happy Planner is back.

I use it kind of as a look back in my planner, that is I decorate it after the week is almost over. I know what has happened during the week, and therefore I can make it more aesthetically pleasing and add decoration where there are holes.

So where do I actually plan? I started a bullet journal. I love it! I just have a simple, black covered and lined journal, but I am not afraid to mess it up. I may get a Leuchtturm when I finish this journal (I think I would like dotted grid pages instead), but I am experimenting with this system in this cheap journal for now. I love how freeing it is to be able to change how my weekly spreads look, and add in random collections in the middle of everything. I am taking a lot of inspiration from Boho Berry, BlueLahe on IG, and the official bullet journal website right now.

I tried to start a bujo last summer, but I fell off the wagon because I got a Happy Planner. It was all about decorating after that.  🙂 But, I need a planner that can be flexible with my needs. I wanted a planner that could be a catch-all, but also one that I wasn’t afraid to get a little messy. And it is! My Happy Planner shows my week in a pretty way, while my bujo actually keeps me organized. Plus, I can change it to be anything I need it to be day to day, or week to week. I take it with me everywhere.

Here is my pretty Recollections planner. It is one of the larger sized ones Michaels carried at the end of last year. I originally wanted to use it as my memory planner, with photos, stickers, and such. But, as I completed the first two weeks of the year, I wasn’t feeling it. So, I turned it into my creative life planner a la Stephanie Howell. I plan and record what I want to complete on my blog, IG, scrapbooking, photography-wise, and miscellaneous creative tasks during the week. Not a lot of decorating going on here, and that may change as I get more comfortable in this planner, but it’s ok with me for now. It’s pretty on its own anyway!

Finally, here’s my Mini Happy Planner. It kind of picks up the slack. It is just so cute! I started using it as my creative life planner, but it was a tad too small for what I wanted to document. It is fun to put randomness from the week in it along with some fun stickers.

This is not technically a planner for me, but it is a new part of my creative routine, so I thought I would include it here. I am backing away from completing tons of 12X12 scrapbook layouts this year (running out of room!), so I am trying this Traveler’s Notebook system out. I will have another post just about this system later, but I am loving the smaller size to scrapbook in!

I don’t have them pictured, but I do also use a Large Happy Planner for work and a personal size Webster’s Pages planner for my financial plans.

Thanks for making it this far with me! More planner posts to come! Any questions, leave a comment below!
